mechanism to access real or virtual XML documents. We will

Securing and Authenticating
Web Services: An Overview of the WS-Security SOAP Extensions
William Kramer
Security is a key area of concern for those considering
the widespread implementation of Web services. Companies planning
to build Web services must provide protection for messages
exchanged in a Web services environment. This discussion will
review various Web services security models, and highlight
the WS-Security specification proposed by IBM, Microsoft and
VeriSign. The WS-Security specification defines a standard
set of SOAP extensions which can be used to implement integrity
and confidentiality in Web services applications.
